File # 2017-7540
On Friday, October 13th, 2017, the Dawson Creek RCMP received a report of a sighting of a possibly stolen pickup truck near 3rd St and Hwy 49.
Dawson Creek RCMP officers attended the area immediately and located the pickup truck travelling north on 3rd St. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the vehicle however it failed to stop for police and fled at a high rate of speed. Officers stopped pursuing the vehicle due to the location and time of day it was unsafe to other persons on the roadways to continue to follow the vehicle.
Later in the day the Dawson Creek RCMP received a report of a possible break and enter at a residence on Berry Rd. The provided description of a vehicle involved matched the stolen pickup truck seen earlier in the day. Officers attended the area and attempted to locate the vehicle.
It had been reported the pickup truck was last seen travelling down an unmaintained road that became more of a quad trail as it progressed. Officers were forced to follow the vehicle’s direction on foot as the terrain became too difficult to navigate with police vehicles. With the assistance of Police Service Dog team Cst. CLOUTIER and his dog ‘Dirks’, officers were able to continue tracking the vehicle.
After a long pursuit on foot, officers located the truck further down the trail as it had become stuck in a rut. The single male occupant had begun to walk away from the truck and was immediately apprehended.
The male is known to police and currently remains in custody.
